mitosis Flashcards
(10 cards)
describe what happens to the chromosomes in prophase
-they become visible because its condensing
escribe how a gene is a code for the production of a polypeptide. Do not include information about transcription or translation in your answer.
- (In) triplet(s);
(Because) base/nucleotide sequence; - (Determines) order/sequence of amino acid sequence/primary structure (in polypeptide);
Mitosis is important in the life of an organism. Give two reasons why.
-growth in cells
-replicate cells
-geneticly identical cells
-asezual reproduction
Describe the role of the spindle during mitosis.
-attatchment of chromosomes
-halves number of chromosome
-diploid
what happens in the first 3 stages of mitosis
prophase - chromosomes condense , centromeres attach to spindle fibres
metaphase- chromosomes at centre of equator
anaphase- centromeres divide, abd chromatids pulled to opposite poles
all- spindle fibres shorten
what happens to the centromeres in anaphase
- they divide , creating chromatids
describe the SF, Centromeres, chromosomes in prophase
-SF- begin to shorten and attach to centromers
chromosomes- condense and are visable
Centromemrs- attatch to centromemer
sf,ch, ce, in metaphase
SF- centromeres attach to spindle fibres(or prophase this happens too)
chromosomes- they line up in centre of equator
centromere- attach to sf
anaphase
-centromers-they divide , creating chromatids
sf- pull chromatids apart
chromatids- sent to opposite ends of the poles
