Mitosis Flashcards
(28 cards)
5 stages of mitosis
Interphase, prophase,metaphase,anaphase,telaphase+cutkinesis
which phase does the cell stretch
Anaphase
which phase does the cell split into 2
telephase+cutoknesis
which phase do the chromosomes become visible
prophase
which phase does the chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell
metaphase
which phase does the nuclear envelope disappear
prophase
which phase do the chromosomes duplicate
interphase
whcih phase are chromosomes pulled apart
anaphase
what are two advantages to sexual reproduction and two advantages to asexual reproduction
sexual reproduction:Resistance to diseases, Genetic variation
Asexual:Faster and energy efficient
Difference between cross pollination and self pollination. Which is sexual and which is asexual
Cross pollination requires another oragansims self pollination doesn’t
Self pollination is asexual reproduction
Cross pollination is sexual
Compare mitosis to meiosis
mitosis:2identidal daughter cells
meiosis:4 haploid cells
When does our body use mitosis and when does our body use meiosis
Mitosis:anything other than sex cells
meiosis:sex cells
How many chromosomes does a healthy human have
46 chromosomes and 23 pairs
What is a fertilized cell called
A zygote
What are the sex cells in a male
Sperm cells
What are the sex cells in a female
Ora or egg cells
What is the difference between genotype rand phenotype
Genotype:genitive make up
Phenotype:Traits
List three kinds of reproductive technologies
IVF,artificial imsemination, embryo transfer
List three kinds of Contraceptive technology’s
Condones IUD,morning after pill
Describe the path of sperm cells, from devolpemnt to ejaculation
The sperm pathway begins in the testicles, then to the epididymis, vas deferens, ejaculatory duct, and then the urethra. Upon leaving the epididymis, sperm mixes with fluids released by the prostate and seminal vescicles.
Describe what happens to an egg from the time it is released from the ovary to the time it leaves the body if it hasnt been fertilized
An egg only survives 12 to 24 hours after ovulation. If sperm doesn’t’ fertilize the egg, your body reabsorbs it. Unlike your egg, sperm can survive for several days in your body. It will be passed out of the body through menstruation
Example of binary fission
