Mitosis Flashcards
(14 cards)
Mitosis=
Cell division
The goal of mitosis is to…
reproduce cells that are identical to the parent cell.
Cells need to…
divide to - replace old ones - repair damaged ones - reproduce new ones
DNA in the Nucleus does what?
coils up to form a chromesome
Why do cells preform different functions?
Because they use different jeans or sections of DNA
Chromosomes
Bundles of DNA that carry genetic info.
Chromatid
one half chromosomes
Interphase
This is where a cell spends a majority of its life growing and replicating its DNA.
Prophase
centrioles and spindle fibers start to appear, chromatids become visible, nucleus dissapears.
Metaphase
chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell
Ananphase
spindle fibers separate the cromatids and pull them to opposite ends of the cell.
Telophase
cell membrane starts to pinch in the middle. Two new nuclei start to form in each new cell, chromosomes dissapear into nucleus.
cytokinesis
division of the cytoplasm
cancer
uncontrolled growth of the cell.
