  • the DNA replicates to form 2 copies of each chromosome
    the cell grows and copies its organelles
  • one set of chromosomes is pulled to each pole of the cell, the nucleus divides too
  • the cytoplasm and cell membrane form 2 identical cells

what happens after fertilisation?

A
  • the new cell divides by mitosis
  • this produces a clump of identical cells (embryo)
