Mitosis and Miosis Flashcards
(23 cards)
Which process produces 2 cells
Mitosis
Which process produces 4 cells
Miosis
What is sexual reproduction?
Miosis
What is asexual reproduction
Mitosis
What needs one parent
Mitosis
What needs two parents
Miosis
Which one passes down all their genes
Mitosis
Which one passes down half their genes
Miosis
Which one produces a genetically identical daughter cell
Mitosis
Which one produces an offspring with unique combination of genes from both parents
Miosis
Which part of cell replication takes the most time
Interphase
Which replication system goes through steps twice
Miosis
Order of phases in Mitosis
Interphase,
Prophase,
Metaphase,
Anaphase,
Telophase, and
Cytokenisis
Which step does chromosomes line up down the middle of the cell
Metaphase
Which step does DNA condense and membrane dissipates
Prophase
Which step does the chromosomes split down the middle and the sister chromatids are pulled separate ways by the spindle fibers
Anaphase
Which phase is the cell pinched together in the middle and start to separate into two cells.
Telophase
Which phase is the actual splitting of the cell
Cytokinesis
Advantages of mitosis
- Time and energy is not wasted finding a mate
- Because it is continuous large numbers can be produced
- Offsping can be produced quickly
- Favourable enviroment conditions can be exploited
- If parent is gentically good quality the offspring will be as well.
Advantages of miosis
- Variation:
1. Can adapt to changes in environment
2. If parent is poor quality offspring has chance of not being poor quality - Not variation:
3. Organisms can colonize more easily
What begins the process; when the DNA is replicated.
Interphase
What are somatic cells replication system
Mitosis
What produces gametes
