Mitosis Vocab Terms Flashcards
(21 cards)
Mitosis
“Nucleus Division” involves the division of DNA followed by the division of cytoplasm
DNA
carries genetic information that carries the function of an organism
Chromatin
Loose state of DNA
Chromosome
Tightly coiled strand of DNA, made for dividing equally and easily
Chromatid
One of the 2 identical halves of a duplicated chromosome
Sister Chromatids
Identical copies of a chromosome
Daughter Cells
Cells formed after cell division
Prophase
Nuclear envelope breaks down allowing spindle apparatus to break down.(step 1)
Metaphase
Replicated chromosomes line up at metaphase plate (step 2)
Anaphase
Sister chromatids are pulled apart and move towards end of cell (step 3)
Telophase
The nuclear envelope is rebuilt using parts of broken spindle (step 4)
Cytokinesis
The cytoplasm and organelles separate to create 2 new cells
Cleavage Furrow
Forms with the help of micro filaments
Cell Plate
Cell wall, forms using small segments of cellulose
Metaphase Plate
located in the middle of the cell where replicated chromosomes line up
Spindle Fiber
Attached to replicated chromosomes in center of cell
Centriole
Occurs in pairs and involved in development of spindle fibers
Centromere
Region on chromosome where 2 sister chromatids are attached to each other
Nuclear Envelope
Breaks down allowing spindle apparatus to form
Kinetochore
Part of centrometer, attaches to spindle apparatus
Histone Protien
helps DNA coil up to form chromosomes needed for cell division
