rare
rheumatic heart disease
any inflammation

A
causes pressure loaded LA:
- backpressure into lungs - pulmonary hypertension
- potentially right sided overload and heart failure
- chronic raised pressure will cause LA dilation - AF - this becomes v dangerous

A
- haematopoesis
- severe exersize syncope
- orthopnoea
- paraoxysmal nocturnal dysponea

A
- ECG – AF or P wave enlargement/bifid p wave of p mitrale
- echo
balloon open the valve

MS signs
A
- diastolic murmur just before S1
- S1 may be absent
- opening snap after S2
mitral facies - vasoconstriction of facial vessels
