What position is the client in for a Grade 2 right shoulder flexion test?

Do you stand infront of behind the patient?

Client would be Sidelying

Stand infront of the client and place your hand under their elbow (to support) and other hand on their wrist

What position is the client in for a Grade 3, 4&5 Right Shoulder Flexion Test?

Where do you place the resistance? (G4-5)

A

Client should be Seated on the edge of the plint
–> arms hanging by their side

Clinicans hand goes on their wrist to apply the resistance

What position is the client in for a Grade 3 Planterflexion Test?

A

Client should be Prone with their feet hanging off the edge of the bed

–> Feet should be relatively dorsiflexed to allow for the foot to move through a larger arc of planterflexion to effectively test the strength of the muscles

What position is the client in for a Grade 4 & 5 Hip Abduction Test?

Where is the resistance applied?

A

The client should be Sidelying with the testing leg ONTOP

Clinican should apply resistance just above the ankle (think of the lever arm principle)

Ensure to cue the client to maintain a straight leg (e.g. no knee flexion during the test)

What position is the client in for a Grade 4 & 5 Hip Adduction Test?

Where is the resistance applied?

A

The client should be Sidelying with the testing leg Underneath

Non-testing leg can be Externally rotated with the sole of the foot on the plinth (making an arch for the testing leg to move through)

Clinicans hand should be placed above the ankle to apply the resistance.

How is the client positioned for the Grade 3-5 Hip Extension test?

Where is the resistance applied?

A

Client should be Prone with the testing leg hanging off the side of the bed –> allows more of a starting flexion angle

During the Grade 4 & 5 the clinician should place the resistance just above the ankle on the posterior aspect of the shank
