Mobs Flashcards
(11 cards)
What is a NAG
Applied in an antero-superior direction
C2-T3
For acute/inflammatory conditions or stiff facet joints
For thoracic patients, useful for a fixed extension position
What is a SNAG
Applied to any level
Not for high SIN patients, most useful when symptoms are provoked by a movement
Performed in weight-bearing positions
What are MMWM
For pain that moves & isn’t specific to one spot
Symptoms may be neural
Mob aim - open up problematic facet joint
Affected movement should be performed actively/passively
Zemadanis 2018
NAGS, SNAGS & SELF-SNAGS all showed positive effects on reducing pain & increasing mobility
SNAGS & SELF-SNAGS we’re most effective
Hussein et al., 2017
Lumbar SNAGS lead to superior outcomes in reducing pain, increasing lumbar proprioception and increasing functional ability
Shehri et al., 2018
Maitlands and Mulligans Mobs both effectively decrease neck pain and increase function, although the Maitlands group exhibited slightly superior outcomes in pain reduction and increased RoM
Krekoukias et al., 2017
Spinal mobs are effective in decreasing pain and disability in chronic LBP patients due to disc degeneration
Tensioner (chronic conditions, less RoM)
Stretching of nerves within their elastic range
Increase tension of nerve throughout pathway
20-30s hold for 2-3 sets
Slider (acute conditions)
Stretching of nerve at one end, relaxing at other
Moves nerve against adjacent structures
2s hold at each end, 10-15 reps for 3-5 sets
Take home advice
Monitor symptoms
Note pain levels
Drink plenty of water
Self SNAGS/treatment
Pain Gate Theory
Non-nociceptive nerve fibres, stimulated by mobilisations, can inhibit the transmission of pain signals (carried by small, unmyelinated C fibres), thus reducing the pain felt by the athlete
