MOD 5 Flashcards
(32 cards)
Arterial Fluid
a concentrated mixture of germicidal and preservative chemicals for the purpose of arterial embalming of the dead human body
Arterial Solution
a mixture of arterial (vascular) fluid and water used for the arterial injection
Cavity Fluid
governs the relationship between cavity pressure, volume, and temperature
Supplemental Fluid
- Pre injection
- Co injection
- Restorative
Accessory Chemical
a group of chemicals used in addition to vascular (arterial) and cavity embalming fluids includes: hardening compounds, preservative powders, sealing agents, and pack application agents
Special Purpose Fluid
chemicals for special conditions the deceased may have such as jaundice, edema, and severe decomposition.
Formalin
a colorless solution of formaldehyde in water, used chiefly as a preservative for biological specimens.
Paraformaldehyde
a white powder (CH2O) that consists of a polymer of formaldehyde and is used especially as a disinfectant.
Index
the strength of an embalming fluid
Donor Compounds
used to temporarily delay decomposition and restore a natural appearance for viewing a body after death
Glutaraldehyde
a compound (C5H8O2) that contains 2 aldehyde groups
it is a cold sterilant to disinfect and clean
heat-sensitive equipment such as suction bottles, ear, nose, and throat instruments
Phenol
a mildly acidic toxic white crystalline solid obtained from coal tar and used in chemical manufacture, and in dilute form as a disinfectant
Quats
potent disinfectant chemicals commonly found in disinfectant wipes, sprays, and household items
Vehicles
a thing used fr transporting people or goods
Dye
a natural or synthetic substance used to add color to or change the color of something
Modifying Agents
control the rate of action of the main preservative chemicals of embalming formulations
Buffers
helps balance the pH in the body of the deceased in order to make formaldehyde work better
Humectants
added to dehydrated and emaciated bodies to help restore tissue to a more natural and hydrated appearance
Anti-Coagulants
used in the embalming solution to help keep blood in a liquid state
Surfactants
wetting agents, surface tension producers, penetrating agents, or surface-active agents lower the surface tension of the preservative solution.
Pre-Injection Fluids
break up clots and condition vessels
Co-Injection Fluids
restore dehydrated tissues and fight edema
Restorative Fluids
a liquid cosmetic so compounded that it can be atomized to provide a means of application to a surface
Edema Fluid
tiny blood vessels in your body leak fluid
