Q

What is the difference between a model and a computer program?

A

A model is produced by a human being (modeller) aided by computer programmes

The term “computer code” is often used for the commands written in the computer programme/software

Q

What does the modeller do during the modelling process?

A
  • Chooses what data to use
  • Chooses what computer programme/ software to use
  • Designs the model
  • Verifies, calibrates and validates the model
  • Selects the results that seem reasonable and rejects those that do not
