Model of the atom Flashcards
Learn about the model of the atom and how its changed over time. (7 cards)
Who created the plum pudding model in 1897?
J.J Thompson.
What was the plum pudding model?
Model of the atom that modelled it as a ball of positive charge with dots of negative charge (electrons) dotted around in it.
Who created the nuclear model in 1909?
Ernest Rutherford.
What did Ernest Rutherford find out?
He discovered that alpha particles could bounce off atoms. He then deduced that the mass of an atom is located at the centre. He came up with the nucleus filled with positively charged protons.
Who made the modern model?
Niels Bohr and James Chadwick.
What did Niels Bohr find out?
He found that electrons orbit the nucleus at fixed distances.
What did Chadwick discover?
He found out that there are neutrally charged particles in the nucleus and called them neutrons.
