what is the main idea?
that the repression of crime should be the most important function of criminal justice because order is a necessary condition for a free society
why should police powers be expanded?
to make it easier to seize, arrest, convict and search
why should the accused be presumed guilty when the police make an arrest and prosecutors files charges?
because the fact finding of police and prosecutors is extremely reliable
what should be eliminated that limits police?
Legal technichalities
how should the criminal justice system operate when the probale guilty is identified ?
like an assembly line, moving cases swiftly across to their deposition - presumed guilty because fact finding of police and CPS is reliable.
what does the crime control model argue should be promoted?
victims and societies rights rather than defendants rights
what does the model argue about innocent people who are convicted by mistake?
if innocent people are occasionally convicted by mistake that is a price worth paying for convicting many more guilty people
what 3 theories of criminality does the model link to ?
Right Realism - punishment for an offence no matter the reason
Zero tolerance of crime - no crime is acceptable
functionalist approach - reinforces societies moral boundaries the purpose of justice is to punish the guilty, this enables society to express moral outrage and strengthen social cohesion
