What does nursing mean to you?
Nursing is being an advocate, a caregiver, helping everyone no matter what background race or gender.

Four purposes of nursing care
Health promotion, illness prevention, health restoration and end-of-life care
Nursing Process
a decision-making framework used by all nurses to determine the needs of their patients and to decide how to care for them
Care Plan
a documented plan for giving patient care and includes health providers orders, nursing diagnoses, and nursing orders
Critical Thinking
using skillful reason and logical thought to determine the merits of a belief or action
Critical thinking helps
not jump to conclusion about patients or patient care

assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation
Mnemonic for Nurse process
ADPIE
Assessment
gathering information through signs and symptoms; nurse gathers information by interviewing patient and performing a head-to-toe assessment as well as reviewing lab and diagnostic tests
Diagnosis
the formulation through analysis of the assessment information
Nursing Diagnosis
related to the needs or problems a patient is having in the moment, different from a medical diagnosis
Planning
process of determining priorities and what nursing actions should be performed to help resolve or manage each patient problem
Implementation
process of taking actions to resolve patient’s problem
Evaluation
nurse reflects on interventions they performed and decides if patient is closer to meeting care goals from planning step
Objective data
things that you can observe through your senses of hearing, sight, smell and touch
Subjective data
information known only to the patient and family members
