Annual Report/10-K
A comprehensive report filed with the SEC by publicly traded corporations providing
financial statements for the year, along with lengthy descriptions and analyses of
business issues.
Quarterly Report/10-Q
A rather brief report filed with the SEC by publicly traded corporations providing
financial statements for the quarter, along with limited descriptions and analyses of
business issues.
Conference Call Transcript
A transcript of a conversation between a firm’s executives and analysts covering the
firm. Typically starts with a presentation by the executives, followed by Q&A.

A very brief report filed with the SEC by publicly traded corporations announcing news
investors will find important.
Analyst Report
A report written by an analyst evaluating the firm’s financial performance,
position, and prospects, often including a prediction of future stock prices and a
recommendation to buy, hold, or sell the stock.
Balance sheet
Reports financial position (assets and claims on assets).
Item 1. Business
Management’s summary of how the business makes money: major market segments,
strategies, and transactions (like mergers, acquisitions, and dispositions).
Item 1A. Risk Factors
Management’s summary of major risks that might affect future performance.
Income statement
Reports the changes in financial position that affect owner’s equity through revenue,
expenses, gains, and losses.
Cash Flow Statement
Reports inflows and outflows of cash for operations, investment, and financing.
MD&A
Management’s discussion and analysis of financial performance.
Footnotes
Detailed disclosures of accounting practices, assumptions, and additional detail
associated with financial statement line items.
Management Letter
Management’s attestation that they stand behind their filing.
Auditor’s Letter
Auditor’s attestation that they followed appropriate procedures to audit the filing, and
their opinion on the statements.
