Why was Custer and the 7th Cavalry sent to the Black Hills?

A

Custer and the 7th Cavalry were sent to the Black Hills as part of a U.S. government expedition in 1874. The goal was to investigate reports of gold in the area, which ultimately led to a gold rush. tensions with the Lakota Sioux and Cheyenne who considered the Black Hills sacred land, eventually leading to the Battle of Little Bighorn.

Give one example of Americans romanticizing the West?

A

through the iconic image of the cowboy. This figure, portrayed as rugged, independent, and brave, embodies the spirit of the frontier. Cowboys, as shown in countless movies and novels, lived a life of adventure and freedom, herding cattle and taming wild horses.
