Module 3 Flashcards
(18 cards)
What are cilia?
Small hair like structures on the surface of a cell that helps move mucus and trapped particles out of hte body.
Describe reticular connective tissue
It provides a scaffolding for immune cells and filtering fluids while providing structural framework for soft tissues like liver, spleen and lump nodes
Which type of epithelial tissue is specialized for absorption and secretion in teh small intestine
Simple columnar epithelium
What are the layers of the epidermis?
Come- on - lets - get - sun - burned
What are the 8 components that make up the dermis?
1: collagen fibers
2: elastin fibers
3: fibroblasts
4: sweat glands
5: sebaceous glands
6: nerves
7: arector pilli muscle
8: blood vessels
How are fingerprints formed?
Interaction between dermal papillae and epidermal ridges
Which layer of the epidermis is attached to the basement membrane closest to the dermis
Stratum basale
What are cavities in the body?
A true cavity is closed and filled with fluid and lined by a serous membrane.
What is the purpose of body cavities?
To protect organs and allow for changes in the shape or size without damage
What are the six body cavities
1: cranial
2: vertebral
3 pleural
4: pericardial
5: abdominal
6: pelvic
What is serous membrane?
A thin double layered stricter that lines body cavities not open to the outside
What are the two layers in teh serous membrane
Parietal membrane: lines the cavity wall
Visceral membrane; lines the organ itself
What is parietal membrane:
Lines the cavity wall
What is visceral membrane?
Covers the organ itself
What is cutaneous membrane?
The skin
What is synovial membrane?
Found in teh cavities of the joints. Consist of tissues that secrete a fluid which lubricates the joints for smoother movement
What is mucous membrane?
Line body cavities that are open to the exterior. Goal is to secrete mucus to keep the surface moist and trap foreign particles
Which membrane lines body cavities that are not open to the outside
Serous membrane
