Q

Explain sex determination in human

A
  • determined by the SRY gene which is present on the Y sex chromosome
  • in early embryonic development there are bi-potential gonads (indifferent)
  • if SRY gene is present, testes develop
  • if SRY gene is absent, ovaries develop
  • to be a female you dont need to be XX

Q

oogenesis

A

formation of a mature ovum from the oogonia
oogonium (2n) –> primary oocyte (2n) –> secondary oocyte (n)–> ootid (n) –> ovum (egg)(n)
