Module 8 Flashcards
(42 cards)
What is the difference between the origin of a muscle and the insertion of a muscle?
Original is the attachment of muscle to bone and is stationary, insertion is the attachment of bone to muscle and can move
How many muscles are in the head?
6
What are the muscles of the head?
Orbicularis oris, orbicularis oculi, zygomaticus major, mass eater, temporal is and lateral pterygoid
Origin and insertion: orbicularis oculi?
Origin: maxilla, frontal and lacrimal bone
Insertion: circumference of orbit/eye
Origin and insertion: orbicularis oris?
Origin: tissue of lips
Insertion: under skin of corners of the mouth
Origin and insertion: zygomaticus major?
O: zygomatic bone
I:under skin of corners of mouth
Origin and insertion: masseter?
O: zygomatic process of maxillae and anterior zygomatic arch
I: mandibular ramus
Origin and insertion: temporalis?
O: temporal
I: mandible
Origin and insertion: lateral pterygoid?
O: pterygoid process of sphenoid
I: mandible
What does the orbicularis oculi do?
Closes eyelids
What does the orbicularis oris do?
Protrudes/shaepes/puckers lips
What does the zygomaticus major do?
Smiles/lifts up mouth
What does the masseter do?
Closes mouth (elevates and protracts the mandible)
What does the temporalis do?
Closes mouth (elevates mandible)
What does the lateral pterygoid do?
Opens mouth and moves mandible side to side/chewing
What nerve innervates the orbicularis oculi and how?
CNVII (facial nerve, temporal branch, thru stylomastoid foramen)
What nerve innervates the orbicularis oris and how?
CNVII (facial nerve, buccal branch, thru stylomastoid foramen)
What nerve innervates the zygomaticus major and how?
CNVII (facial nerve, zygomatic branch, thru stylomastoid foramen)
What nerve innervates the masseter and how?
CNV (trigeminal nerve, mandibular branch thru foramen ovale)
What nerve innervates the temporalis and how?
CNV (trigeminal nerve, mandibular branch thru foramen ovale)
What nerve innervates the lateral pterygoid and how?
CNV (trigeminal nerve, mandibular branch thru foramen ovale)
How many muscles of the neck are there?
6
What are they?
Sternocleidomastoid, selenium capitis, rectus abdominus, external and internal oblique, transversus abdominis and diaphragm
Origin and insertion: sternocleidomastoid?
O: sternum/manubrium and clavicle
I: temporal (at the mastoid process) and occipital
