Seesaw
Test for group 2 elements + results
Add excess Sodium hydroxide to see ppt forms
Mg = white ppt
Ca= slight white ppt
Sr= slight white ppt
Ba= no change = clear solution
Test for ammonium ion + results
Add sodium hydroxide and heat up in water bath = form Ammonia gas
Test ph with damp red litmus paper = should bleach it to turn blue
Test for sulfate ions
Use acidified barium chloride
= form white ppt and barium sulfate forms which is very insoluble
Test for hydroxide ions
Use damp red litmus paper
= turns blue if present as OH- is alkaline
Test for halide ion
Add nitric acid then silver nitrate
Cl forms white ppt as silver chloride forms
Br forms cream ppt as silver bromide forms
I forms yellow ppt as silver iodide forms
Test for carbonate ions + result
Add hydrochloric acid will causes solution to fizzes because carbonate ion react with hydrogen ion = form CO2. CO2 test with lime water, will turn cloudy
