Molecules And Matter Flashcards
(7 cards)
What is density and how is it calculated
a measure of how tightly the mass of an object is packed into the space it takes up, it is calculated by dividing the mass of an object by its volume
What is the unit for density
Kg/m3 and g/cm3
What are the three states of matter and how do they differ
Solid, liquid and gasses. Solids have a fixed shape and volume, it particles vibrate on the spot, liquids have a fixed volume but take the shape of their container and gases have neither a fixed shape nor volume and expand to fit their container
What and how does internal energy relate to the states of matter
The energy stored by the particles of a substance is called the substances internal energy it changes during changes of state as heat is either added or removed affecting the motion and arrangement of particles within the substance
Gas to solid
Deposition
Solid to gas
Sublimation
What is latent heat
Energy transferred to a substance when is changes state
