Molecules Vocab Flashcards
(16 cards)
What is a molecule?
A molecule is 2 or more atoms bonded together.
What is a chemical bond?
A chemical bond is the connection between atoms.
What are models in chemistry?
Models are representations of an object.
What is a chemical formula?
A chemical formula is the atoms (letters + numbers) that make up a molecule.
Chemical Structure
The specific way that atoms are arranged
What is an extended structure?
An extended structure is a molecule whose atoms occur in a constant ratio and repeating pattern.
Ratio
A quantity relationship between 2 things
Crystal
Structure of an atom or molecule is a 3D pattern
polymer
structure of molecules in a repeating chain pattern
Glucose and fructose both have an atomic composition of Col,206 but they are different molecules. What is most likely the major difference between them?
There chemical structure
c4h3 has how many element and atoms?
2 element 7 atoms
What is an element
A pure substance made up of only one type of atom
What is an atom?
Smallest unit of matter
What is a molecule
Two or more atoms bonded together
When making molecule models, what do the beads represent? The sticks?
The beads represent atoms and the stick represent the bonds
Can you have 2 different crystals that are made of the same atom? Give an example.
How is it the same? How is it different?
Yes you can. Crystal and Graphite. It’s the same because it’s the same element, carbon. It’s different because one is in pencils and one is crystal
