Types of Moral Judgements
judge actions to be right/wrong, judge people, their characters, their motives, their moral principles
descriptive ethics
tries to identify the principles the people do, in fact, use to make moral judgments (practiced by sociologists)
normative ethics
tries to identify the principles that people should use to do right or avoid wrong (practiced by philosophers)
evolutionary ethics
actions that promote the survival and existence of the human species
absolutism
moral values are fixed regardless of context, time, place, culture, situation, or person (black and white, clear cut)
relativism
moral values are based on context, time, place, culture, situation, or person
divine command theory
what makes an action right is that God commands it to be done
