Phonologically conditoned morphemes

A
  • Plural morpheme:
    {S} /ɪz/ after /s, z, ʃ, ʒ, tʃ, dʒ/ (glasses, camouflages)
    /z/ after vowels (toes, paws, stairs)
    after voiced consonants (pens)
    /s/ after voiceless consonants (books)
  • Past tense morpheme:
    {D} /ɪd/ after /d/ and /t/ (hated)
