Ritonello 1

A

-3 ideas
-everyone in rhythmic unison except solo flute.
- Idea A = bars 1-8 in string part. 2 dotted quaver rhythm with uppper auxilary ( A1)followed by 4 quavers (A2) of the same pitch
- Idea B = bars 8.3-10.1. Flute joins the strings in unison. syncopated rhythm of crotchet tied to a semiquaver followed by 3 more semiquavers. Linked to idea A by upper aux and downward leaps
- Idea C = bars 10-13. Dmajor scale filling an octave leap set in typical Vivaldi two-semiquaver-quaver rhythm.

Epiosde 1

A

-written for solo flute alone (no orchetsra or continuo) so like a cadenza
-soloist can use this to imitate a goldfinch
-a piacimento = as you please, soloist can improvise and have a free tempo etc
-uses upper auxillary notes to recall ideas A and B.
-begins with crotchet tied to dotted quaver
-bar 14 same rhythm as idea B. There is then a dimuntion into straight semiquavers and the demisemiquavers.
-Dotted crotchet return halfway through bar 16 (typical vivaldi).
-Ends with demisemiquaver ascending scale runs and a pause on D (trill)

A

-bar 26.3-31.4
-staccatisimo quavers/continuous tonic pedals with pitches above, until it reaches D
-when D is reached, the flute takes rhythm from first episode (crotchet tied to dotted quaver) with octave leaps.
-Violins join (in thirds) the passage antiphonally answering with idea D, which is based on an upper auxilary note and a trill

Episode 2 - section 2

A

-b32 = run of semiquavers in broken chord configuration (arpeggios) and vioa plays new bass line. Moves to E minor, then B minor. dominant semiquaver inverted pedal in violin 1. each modulation is punctuated by the continuo part.
-b39 viola has antiphonal scales leading into a new set of sequences built on previous material. Flute has Idea A1 inverted with a minor 6th.
-followed by idea E (a quaver followed by 6 semi quavers using lower auxilary notes). 1st violins add bird like trils and viola provide steady bass line.
-b46 drops idea E and just uses A1 inverted and it progresses towards ritornello.
-b47 A1 (not invereted) inot ritonello 3
