Motion Unit Flashcards
(22 cards)
Motion of an object is to describe how far it moved
Distance
Distance and Direction of an objects change in position from the starting point
Displacement
Distance an object travels per unit of time
Speed
Total distance traveled divided by the total time of travel
Average Speed
Speed at a given point of time
Instantaneous Speed
Includes the speed of an object and the direction of its motion.
Velocity
Rate of change of Velocity
Acceleration
Is a Push or Pull
Force
When 2 or more forces act on a object at the same time.
Net Force
Forces on an object that are equal in size and opposite in direction
Balanced Forces
Tendency of an object to resist any change in its motion
Inertia
The acceleration of an object is in the same direction as the net Force on the object
Newtons Second Law of Motion
The force that opposes the sliding motion of two surfaces that are touching eachother
Friction
Frictional force that prevents 2 surfaces from sliding past each other
Static Friction
The force that opposes the motion of 2 surfaces sliding past each other
Sliding Friction
Opposes the motion of objects to fall with different accelerations and different speeds
Air Resistance
An attractive force between any two objects that depends on the masses of the objects and distance between.
Gravity
Gravitational Force exerted in an object
Weight
Acceleration toward the center of a curved or circular path.
Centripetal Acceleration
The net Force exerted toward the center of a curved path.
Centripetal Force
Describes action-reaction pairs.
Newtons third law
The product of its mass and velocity.
