What are the positives and negatives of extrinsic motivation ?

A

Attracts to the activity and provides early motivation

Is used too much may undermine the value of the activity and therefore intrinsic motivation, players competing just for the reward
Extrinsic motivation may create pressure on players to achieve and if they don’t get the reward motivation may be lost. This same pressure may also promote cheating
