Describe Taylor’s motivational theory.
A
- Money is the key motivator.
- Tasks should be boring and repetitive.
- Staff should be closely supervised.

Describe Mayo’s motivational theory.
A
- Meeting social needs is the motivator.
- Being part of teams is crucial.
- Consulting staff and giving autonomy over their jobs.

Describe Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs.
A
- Must draw triangle.
- Meeting higher and lower order needs.
- Can’t be fully motivated unless you fulfil every level of the triangle.

Describe Herzberg’s motivational theory.
A
- Job satisfaction.
- Hygiene factors - don’t motivate but must be present to keep staff happy e.g. pay, working conditions.
- Motivating factors - if present led to job satisfaction e.g. promotion, recognition.

Describe Vroom’s expectancy theory.
A
- Based on what workers expected the rewards to be.
- 3 core elements to motivating through reward
- Valance (how much they want it)
- Instrumentality (do they know how to gain it)
- Expectancy (belief that they can get the reward)

- Intrinsic rewards - internal e.g pride
- Extrinsic rewards - external e.g. bonuses
