Q

What is dangerous jog cct

A

Where pressed too quickly the m coil stays energised and seals in even when job button released.

Q

Limit switch

A

Has a lever which when pushed will open or close cct. Used to prevent over travel- doors etc.

8
Q

What is inductive proximity switch

A

Detect ferrous and non ferrous metals.

Traffic lights - have buried inductive coil car will drive on and increase magnetic field and change the current so light turns green. When drives away inductive coil will not be inducting and switch back to red

9
Q

Capacitive proximity switch

A

Can detect any material places near it (close proximity) and change the state of switch

Q

Types of thermal switches/thermostats

A

Bimetallic strip. Hard when normal state when heated it will droop and come into contact with contacts to change state

Remote bulb type-
As liquid in bulb expands due to heat it changes the state of the switch (used in freezers)

12
Q

How does remote bulb temperature switch work

A

Bellows inside bulb expand and act as actuator and change state of switch

14
Q

What do flow switches measure

A

Movement of liquid or gas

Uses a paddle which moves as fluid or gas moves changing state of switch

Q

What do pressure switches measure

A

Pumps and air compressors

They are safety device to prevent to much pressure build up (cut in and cut out)

16
Q

What is differential point on pressure switch

A

Difference between cut in and cut out

Air compressor cut in 105psi and cut out at 120psi =15psi differential

17
Q

Three types of pressure switches

A

Bourbon type
Bellows
Diaphragm

18
Q

Three types of time delay relays

A

Pneumatic
Motor driven
Electronic

19
Q

On delay and off delay time delay relays difference

A

On delay - timing cycle begins when energised (DOE depend on energization)

Off delay - timing cycle begins when de-energised (DODE depends on de-energization)

21
Q

What switch doesn’t include overload protection?

22
Q

What is lockout relay

A

Built into zero speed switch to prevent switch working if not energised

23
Q

What is anti plugging

A

To prevent a motor switching from forward/reverse whilst energised. Needs to come to a complete stop before changing direction - using zero speed switch

24
Q

What is combination starter

A

Contains everything in power cct in same enclosure

25
Motor starter must do 3 things
Start motor Stop motor Provide running protection
26
Isolation switch. Where is it?
Upstream of disconnect- not HP rated and not meant to interrupt current flow
27
What’s in motor starter
Power contacts (M) OL (heater element)
28
What is latching relay
After power removed relay remains mechanically latched Quieter operation Doesn’t need continuous power
29
What are time delay relays used for
Starting multiple motors to stagger start time to prevent large inrush currents
30
Another word for plugging switch
Zero speed switch
31
Plugging vs anti plugging
Plugging = stops motor instantly stop button pressed. Puts it in reverse briefly to stop motor quickly Anti plug= stops reverse being pressed when stop button pressed before it’s done to complete stop
32
Two ways to provide plugging
Plugging switch Timing relay ( can be set to energise reverse after certain time after stopped)
33
Proximity switches are types of limit switches true/false
True!
34
35
Which two switches use bellows
Temperature switch ( remote bulb) Pressure switch.
36
How many wires in control cct with forward reverse stop push bottom station
4 wires
37
How many wires in jog control cct
4 wires
38
Dotted line between coil
Mechanically connected
39
Plugging and anti plugging switch orientation
Plugging = open zero speed switch Anti plug = closed zero speed switch
40
Manual motors don’t provide low voltage protection?
True. Do NOT provide low voltage release. Switch remains on until operator switched off (like a light switch)
41
An oil filet pot and piston is a ______ timer?
Dashpot timer
