flexion and extension
flexion: bending moevement that decreases an angle between parts
extension refers to bending movements that increases the angle between parts
adduction and abduction
adduction: motion that pulls or “adds” a structure towards the midline of the body
abduction: the motion that pulls a structure away from the midline of the body.
circumduction
a circular movement of ball and socket joint
(a combination of flexion, abduction, adduction and extension)
supination and pronation
movements of hands
-supination is the rotation of the forearm and palm facing upwards
-rotation of the forearm so the palms facing down
dorsiflexion and plantarflexion
movements of the feet
dorsiflexion: pointing the toes towards the body.
plantarflexion refers to pointing the toes towards the ground.
inversion and eversion
inversion: moving the sole of the foot towards the midline
eversion: moving the sole of the foot away from the midline
