Who makes up the board of pharmacy in AL?

Are you allowed to serve more than one term on the board?
No, you cannot serve two full consecutive terms. The only time you can serve more than 5 years is if you were appointed half way through the previous term to serve for another member.
Is the board ran by an alternative organization?
No, the board is its own separate entity.
Who chairs the board meetings?
The president of the board. He is required to be at all board meetings and if he cannot be there, the vice president must.
How are members of the board appointed?
Thee of the members are appointed by the governor. One from independent pharmacy, chain, and hospital. The other two members are voted for by the pharmacists of Alabama.
When does the term start and how long?
A term starts on January 1st and lasts 5 years.
How often must the board meet?
The board must meet at least 3 times annually.
Who can attend board meetings?
Anyone. They are open to the general public.
How old do you have to be to apply for a pharmacy license?
19 years old
What other requirements are there to apply for a pharmacy license in Alabama?
You must be a US citizen (or legally working here from another country) and be of good moral character.
How much is the application fee for a license?
$100 + $300 exam fee
How many CE hours do you have to have per renewal of license?
15 hours per year (2 years) in which at least 3 hours per year (6 per renewal) of those are live. If you specialize in a separate type of pharmacy there may be other requirements.
What are the CE requirements for a sterile compounding pharmacist in Alabama?
Complete the 8 hour didactic course and hands on training (extra 4 hours if participating in high-risk compounding) and complete at least 2 of your CE hours per renewal must be board approved and you must complete didactic and hands on training each renewal cycle.
What are the CE requirements for a preceptor?
All preceptors must express willingness to the board of pharmacy to serve as a preceptor, be licensed for at least 2 years, attend the board approved training seminar, and complete at least 2 hours of CE for precepting each renewal period
What are the CE requirements for consulting pharmacists in alabama?
They must take the 8 hours live class, live class, score a 75 on the test, and complete at least 8 hours of live CE each renewal cycle.
What are the requirements to become a nuclear pharmacist in Alabama?
Complete the didactic and in lab training (200 hours total), complete 500 hours of supervised nuclear pharmacy apprenticeship, and complete 2 hours of nuclear related CE every renewal cycle.

What examinations are you required to complete to be licensed in the state of Alabama?
You must be interviewed by 2 members of ALBOP, pass the MPJE, and NAPLEX. If you are already licensed in another state, you must take the MPJE and be interviewed by the Board.
How do you renew your license if you let it lapse and do not renew before the deadline?
You must pay $10 for every late month up to 5 years then you have to take it to the board and they have to examen you to reinstate your license.
What is the renewal schedule for a pharmacist’s license?
Every 2 years on even numbered years
How much does it cost to renew a pharmacist license?
$100 for the license itself but another $100 for the controlled substances license. After 50 years of licensure in the state of Alabama, the cost of license renewal reduces to $25.
Are you required to have in intern license before practicing as an intern?
Yes, you have to have the permit before you can work as an intern.
