(23 cards)
stenosis
is an abnormal narrowing in a blood vessel or other tubular organ or structure
Ischemia
Ischemia is a condition in which the blood flow (and thus oxygen) is restricted or reduced in a part of the body. Cardiac ischemia is the name for decreased blood flow and oxygen to the heart muscle.
Apoplexy
Apoplexy is bleeding within internal organs and the accompanying symptoms
Hematoma
Hemorrhage accumulating within a tissue
Glioblastoma multiforme
also called glioblastoma is a fast-growing glioma that develops from star-shaped glial cells (astrocytes and oligodendrocytes)
Glioma: is a type of tumor that occurs in the brain and spinal cord.
pneumothorax
is a collapsed lung. A pneumothorax occurs when air leaks into the space between your lung and chest wall. This air pushes on the outside of your lung and makes it collapse.
Air in the thoracic cavity
pneumonia
Inflammation of the lung
Consolidation
A pulmonary consolidation is a region of normally compressible lung tissue that has filled with liquid instead of air
Abcess
Collection of pus
Effusion
Extravascular fluid collection
Angioplasty
is a procedure to restore blood flow through the artery.
periosteum
a dense layer of vascular connective tissue enveloping the bones except at the surfaces of the joints.
periosteal reaction
is the formation of new bone in response to injury or other stimuli of the periosteum surrounding the bone
Osteosarcoma
is a type of cancer that produces immature bone.
osteomyelitis
Osteomyelitis is an infection in a bone
Codman triangle
is the triangular area of new subperiosteal bone that is created when a lesion, often a tumour, raises the periosteum away from the bone.
Bronchiectasis
is a disease in which there is permanent enlargement of parts of the airways of the lung. Symptoms typically include a chronic cough with mucus production. Other symptoms include shortness of breath, coughing up blood, and chest pain.
Perforation
is a hole that develops through the wall of a body organ
Ileus
is the medical term for this lack of movement somewhere in the intestines that leads to a buildup and potential blockage of food material
Atelectasis
Loss of lung volume caused by inadequate expansion of air space
anaphylactic shock
your blood pressure suddenly drops and your airways narrow, possibly blocking normal breathing
Sclerosis
is the stiffening of a tissue or anatomical feature, usually caused by a replacement of the normal organ-specific tissue with connective tissue
Fibrosis
also known as fibrotic scarring, is a pathological wound healing in which connective tissue replaces normal parenchymal tissue
