Q

How can MSO control the Drogue illumination lights?

A

The MSO has no control over these lights, once trailing and in the airflow a turbine spins to provide power to 6 lights per drogue automatically day and night

17
Q

What prevents rapid movement of hose should electrical power fail?

A

The brake is applied

18
Q

Approximately how much movement of the hose is required to start fuel flow?

A

Pushing in 5ft from fully trailed

19
Q

Approximately where is the inner limit of refuelling range set?

A

25ft from fully trailed

20
Q

What is used to boost delivery pressure to 50 (+/-5) in PODS?

A

Ram Air Turbine (RAT) driven fuel pump at front of POD.

21
Q

What is used to boost delivery pressure to 50 (+/-5) in FRU?

A

Green HYD driven fuel pump No 7

22
Q

Where is fuel delivery pressure measured?

A

At pump outlet (basket) a pressure transducer sends an analogue signal to the Refuelling Control Unit (RCU)

23
Q

In basic terms, how does the RAT control delivery pressure?

A

The Refuelling Control Unit (RCU) regulates the RAT blade angle, altering the speed and delivering the required fuel pressure/flow

24
Q

In the event of an ABN/EMERG condition what is the MSO responsible for?

A

Receiver/Tanker flight safety (disconnect)

WCAM procedures

MSO QRH procedures

25
Q

What occurs should receiver maintain in contact between full trail and 5 ft?

A

After 10 seconds the light will go RED

27
What does a flashing green light indicate?
Hose is in refuelling range but not at full pressure or flow rate
28
What is the minimum flight deck crew oxygen pressure @ 20*C with 3 crew and with 4 crew?
RTS & FCOM 3 Crew - 570 psi 4 Crew - 700 psi MCOM 3 Crew - 700 psi 4 Crew - 910 psi
29
With minimum allowable contents, approximately how long will flight deck crew oxygen last with 4 crew?
15 mins on 100% 105 mins on Normal (mix)
30
When is PM authorised to use OIT keyboard?
On the ground pre-start Push back Once airborne above 1000ft
31
What actions should crews take if inadvertent flight into icing conditions occurs with hoses trailed?
Stop AAR and disconnect receivers Leave hoses trailed Get out of icing conditions Thaw or lose ice before resuming AAR
32
What procedure should be applied should receiver not be visual with Voyager?
Loss of visual (list wingman) procedure Tanker calls Heading, Height, Speed & TACAN Receivers separate (15/15, 30/30, 30/45)
33
Can AAR operations be carried out with u/s tunnel lights?
Yes- 2 lights per hose and 0 required according to RTS
34
What are the wind speed limitations for operating passenger doors?
50 kts if aircraft facing into wind 40 kts if wind is from any other direction
35
With 4000kg in the Trim Tank (TT), when will the fuel move forward automatically?
Centre tank reaches 20T - TT empties to 2.5T Inner tank reaches 20T (10T each side) - TT empties to 1T Inner tank reaches 10T (5T each side) - TT empties to 0T AC descends
36
State the type of weapon systems EWSP is designed to counter?
Infra-red only
37
What additional equipment should be installed on the AC to mitigate the risk to low tech threats?
Personal body armour SLAPS (glasses) for pilots
38
What is the maximum rate of decent for a toboggan with a C139J?
1000 - 1500 ft/min above FL100
39
List the fundamental benefits / losses of Secure Comms and Havequick?
They have separate comms capabilities; Secure Comms - very secure, VHF/UHF/HF available, requires Crypto, not ‘Covert’ Havequick - low cost, low tech, non-crypto, no HF available, not secure
40
How do the MWS detect a SAM?
The MWS sensor passively detects the UV ‘energy-plume spike’ of the launch and short burn phase of an off the rails missile. If then passes this information on to a countermeasure system (LIARCM), its fine track sensor then has a known point to look at to begin tracking.
