MSPT - PRACTICAL 3: Procedures Flashcards
(40 cards)
90/90 test
Pt supine; both hips flexed to 90 with knees bent; use towel to keep position
PT measures knee flexion with goni; 0 deg is full ext.
SLR test for hamstring flexibility
Pt supine
PT perform SLR and measure hip flexion with goni
Rectus Femoris Contracture Test
Thomas test but passively moving knee into 90 deg of flexion (2 fingers)
Palpate for tightness of RF
Ely’s test
Pt prone
PT passively flexes knee
Ober Test
Pt sidelying; lower leg flexed at hip and knee
PT passively abducts and extends upper leg with knee straight or flexed; stabilize pelvis and slowly lower limb
Valgus stress test (knee)
Pt supine; PT places ankle between arm/trunk; push knee medially with fingers on jt line;
Tested in full extension & 20-30 deg flexion; avoid hip rotation
Varus stress test (knee)
Pt supine; PT places ankle between arm/trunk; push knee laterally with fingers on jt line;
Tested in full extension & 20-30 deg flexion; avoid hip rotation
Posterior Sag Sign
Hooklying; observe if tibial tuberosity is pronounced
Lachman test
Supine, knee 30 deg over PT thigh; femur stabilized; rotate tibia slightly laterally; apply anterior translation force
Anterior Drawer Sign
Make sure pt has
(-) sag sign; Hooklying; sit on foot; grasp behind tibia with both hands and apply anterior translation force
Losee test
Supine; hold ankle/foot to ER leg; flex knee 30 deg; hook thumb behind fibular head; apply valgus force to knee; extend knee while maintaining valgus stress and forward pressure on fibular head; allow foot/ankle to drift into IR
Slocum test
Hooklying
- IR 30 deg; sit on foot; apply anterior translation
- ER 15 deg; sit on foot; apply anterior translation
McMurry test
Supine, full knee flexion; IR leg and extend knee
Supine, full knee flexion; ER leg and extend knee
Apley’s test
Prone, 90 deg flexion; stabilize thigh with PT knee; rotate and distract
Prone, 90 deg flexion; stabilize thigh with PT knee; rotate and compress
Patellar apprehension test
Supine, knee flexed 30 w/ relaxed quads; push patella laterally
Clark’s sign (patellar grind)
Apply gentle downward pressure over superior aspect of patella with thumb; pt generates and holds quad contraction
Medial Plica test
Supine; flex knee 30 deg on support; move patella medially
Patellar tap test
Supine; knee extended or slightly flexed; tap the patella
Ballotment test
Apply thumb and index finger lightly to sides of patella; stroke down suprapatellar pouch with webspace of other hand
Navicular drop test
Pt in subtalar neutral; measure distance from navicular to floor; Pt relax; re-measure; subtract
Feiss line
Pt sitting; marker: medial malleolus and plantar 1st MT head; palpate navicular head; Pt relaxed standing and re-palpate
Leg-heel alignment
Pt prone figure 4; prop opp. Hip with pillow to keep test hip in neutral; mark midline of posterior calcaneus and post 1/3 of leg (use knuckles to feel tibia); find STJ neutral; measure angle
Forefoot-heel alignment
Same positioning as in leg-heel; place pen across MT heads to note relationship to bisected calcaneus
Calcaneal valgus
Pt relaxed standing; use goni to measure angle between lower 1/3 of leg and bisected calcaneus
