Q

Sensory store

A

Stimuli from the environment pass into the sensory register
Iconic and echoic
Holds onto information and has a duration of 2 seconds
Info is decayed if not paid attention to
Acts as a buffer and holds onto information from enviro

Q

STM

A

Has a limited duration of between 18 and 30 seconds
Encodes acoustically
Has a capacity of 7+/-2 items

If it isnr rehearsed information would be decayed and lost

Q

Perterson + peterson

A

Conducted a lab experiment where people would recall trigrams , 24 ppts
To prevent rehearsal they were told to count backwards in threes or fours , untillc rhey saw a res light -brown peterson effect
when rhe interval period was 3 seconds, 80 percent of ppts were able to recall but after 18 seconds only a select few of ppts were able to rmemeber

Q

Evaluation

A

There is more than one type of STM
shallice and warrington’s case study of a patient called KF that had trouble on recalling digits and had a poor STM when read aloud to them , but had no trouble on recalling the digits ehen reading it themself, shows that there is another store for processing auditory and visual information
