What was vision Mumbai?
A top down project to build homes, reduce slums, improve transport infrastructure and improve air and water quality.
What was the plan for Vision Mumbai?
Dharavi would be demolished as it is located by the financial district (meaning high land value) and developers would be able to buy the land for a discounted price if they build housing for the people from the slums.
Why did many people from Dharavi not like the changes?
Many would have improved slum improvement e.g. better sewage systems, tall apartment buildings spoilt communities and rents where higher than the slums.
What good came from Vision Mumbai?
New flats had water and sewage systems so were cleaner than the slums, new trains were introduced and the new development helped grow the city’s economy.
