(39 cards)
What is the action of the Pectoralis major muscle?
Both heads: Adducts and medially rotates the GH joint. Clavicular head: flexes the GH joint
What is the action of the Pectoralis minor muscle?
Protracts the scapula. Stabilises scapula on the thoracic wall.
What is the action of the Subclavius muscle?
Anchors and depresses the clavicle
What is the action of the Serratus anterior muscle?
Protracts and superiorly rotates the scapula. Stabilises scapula on thoracic wall
What is the action of the Trapezius muscle?
Elevates, depresses, retracts, and rotates scapula
What is the action of the Levator scapulae muscle?
Elevates and inferiorly rotates the scapula
What is the action of the Latissimus dorsi muscle?
Extends, adducts and medially rotates the glenohumeral joint
What is the action of the Rhomboid major muscle?
Retracts and inferiorly rotates the scapula. Stabilises the scapula on the thoracic wall.
What is the action of the Rhomboid minor muscle?
Retracts and inferiorly rotates the scapula. Stabilises the scapula on the thoracic wall.
What is the action of the Deltoid muscle?
Anterior part flexes and medially rotates the GH joint; middle part abducts the GH joint; posterior part extends and laterally rotates the GH joint.
What is the action of the Teres major muscle?
Adducts and medially rotates the glenohumeral joint
What is the action of the Subscapularis muscle?
Medially rotates the glenohumeral joint. Stabilises the glenohumeral joint
What is the action of the Supraspinatus muscle?
Initiates and assists deltoid in abduction of the glenohumeral joint. Stabilizes the glenohumeral joint
What is the action of the Teres minor muscle?
Laterally rotates the glenohumeral joint. Stabilises the glenohumeral joint
What is the action of the Infraspinatus muscle?
Laterally rotates the glenohumeral joint. Stabilises the glenohumeral joint
What is the action of the Biceps brachii muscle?
Both heads: Supinate the forearm and flex the elbow joint. Short head resists dislocation of the glenohumeral joint
What is the action of the Coracobrachialis muscle?
Flexes and adducts the glenohumeral joint. Also resists dislocation of the glenohumeral joint
What is the action of the Brachialis muscle?
Flexes the elbow joint in all positions
What is the action of the Triceps brachii muscle?
All heads: Extend the elbow joint. Long head prevents dislocation of the glenohumeral joint
What is the action of the Anconeus muscle?
Weakly extends the elbow joint
What is the action of the Pronator teres muscle?
Pronates the forearm and flexes the elbow joint
What is the action of the Flexor carpi radialis muscle?
Flexes and radially deviates the wrist joint
What is the action of the Palmaris longus muscle?
Flexes the wrist joint and tenses the palmar aponeurosis
What is the action of the Flexor carpi ulnaris muscle?
Flexes and ulnar deviates the wrist joint
