muscle systm Flashcards
(38 cards)
what is muscle
the only tissue capable of shortening and contracting
what is the skeletal muscle function
attaches to bone and are largely responsible for voluntary.
what is the structure of the skeletal muscle
striated muscle: made of striation
what is the structure of smooth muscle?
small,spindle-shaped,none-striated and ivoluntary(not under conscious control) and have a single nucleus
what is the function of the smooth muscle
cells are arranged in layers, the alternate contracting and relaxing of these layers changes the size and the shape of the organ and aid in the moving the contents of the organ
where is the cardiac muscle located?
soley in the walls of the heart
what is the structure of cardiac muscle
branched and cross striated cells that join together at structures called intercalated disc
what is the function of cardiac muscle
the arrangement of cells enables spontaneous contractions of neighboring cells to provide heartbeat
what is extensibility
the ability to be stretched
what is elasticity
the ability to return to normal length after a stretch
what is irritability
the ability to respond to stimulus
what is contractility
the ability to contract and shorten
what is concentric
shortening of muscle
what is eccentric
lengthening of muscle
what is isometric
no change in muscle strength
how does muscle generate heat
The oxidation of metabolic fuels such as carbohydrates and fatty acids in the mitochondria of the muscle fibers produces adenosine triphosphate.
what is muscle strength
determined by how much weight a muscle can lift
what is muscle growth
after you workout, your body repairs or replaces damaged muscle fiber through a cellular process where muscle fibers are raised together to form new muscle protein strands of myofibrils
what is muscle endurance
the ability to continue contracting a muscle, or group of muscles, against resistance, such as weight or body weight over a period of time.
what is muscle fatigue?
when the body is providing much oxygen to the cells as required your cells have no problem keeping up with aerobic respiration.
How does muscle fatigue occurs
When the ATP supply fails to meet the consumption of ATP during exercise
where is frontalis and what is it function
location: forehead
function: raise eyebrows
where is Orbicularis Oculi and what is it function
Location: around eyes
Function: Close eyes
where is Nasalis and what is it function
Location: Nose
Function: modify size of nostrils
