Q

What is a joint?

A
  • A joint is a place where two or more bones meet.
  • Joints are important for movement and rotation.
  • All joints allow movement, although the extent of the and freedom of the movement varies from joint to joint
2
Q

What is the Musculo-skeletal System

A

Includes all the bines from the body and attached to the skeletal system is the musculo system and those two together form the musculo-skeletal system

3
Q

Why is the Musculo-skeletal system essential in sport?

A
  • Provides stability
  • Provides posture
  • Provides protection
  • Enables movement
4
Q

5 functions of the skeleton

A
  • Storing minerals
  • Protection
  • Muscle attachment
  • Joints for movement
  • Blood cell production
5
Q

How does the skeletal system protects us in sport?

A
  • The cranium protects our brain from collisions like in football going up for a header
  • The spine protects the spinal cord in our back
  • Our ribs protect our heart (rugby tackle at chest)
6
Q

What’s the benefit of muscle attachment in sport?

A

The muscles you use in sport need to be strong points to attach to. The muscles are attached by tendons, and the bones act as anchor the muscles can pull on as they move.

7
Q

Why are joints important in sport?

A

Joints let the body make a variety of movements. For example, kicking a football.

8
Q

How does mineral storage benefit us in sport?

A

The bones act as a store for calcium and phosphorus, two minerals that are vital for developing and maintaining the strong healthy bones that you need in sport, otherwise you’ll get injured easily. Phosphorus also helps to reduce muscle pain after a hard workout

9
Q

How does red and white blood cells production benefit a sports person?

A

Some bones have hollow centred s that hold bone marrow. Bone marrow makes most of the cells of the blood, including red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets. White blood cells will stop infection and injury, red blood cells will provide oxygen to send around our body and platelets clot wounds.
