Anglican Chant
A short sacred song w/ no real rhythmm but sung in harmony.
- The rhythem is based on the how you would say the text
- One note many words
Gregorian Chant
Sacred text set to one line of music (came before Anglican)
- Many notes one word
Chanty
A song sung by workmen in time w/ their motions
- Also spelled “Shanty”
Chest Voice
The lower register of the voice in which vibrations are felt more in the chest
- Speaking voice
Chorale
- A hymn tune of the German Protestant Church; Bach wrote a lot abt. them
- Also can be used to define a singing group (I sing in the chorale)
Chord
A harmony of (usually) 3 notes (but could be 2) or more, in a series of thirds
Chromatic Scale
Going up or down the scale in all half notes
Claque
Hired groups of people paid to applaud an opera singer or some other performer
Classical Music
European music from abt 1750-1830
- But also any serious music
Coda
Italian
- Italian for ‘tail’
- It means the end or tag on a piece of music

Italian
- Italian term for “with” like con moto “with movement”
