Using ‘a’
the personal a is needed before the word for any human being or pet or object that is the direct object of a verb after every single verb. A" is used to indicate the direction or destination of movement. Example: "Voy a la tienda" "A" is used to indicate a specific time or location. Example: "Estoy a las 10" (I'm at 10). "A" can be used before an infinitive to indicate the start of an action or to combine two verbs. Example: "Empieza a llover" (It starts to rain). A" can be used to indicate the method of transportation. Example: "Viajaré a pie" (I will travel on foot). When "a" is followed by the definite article "el," they contract to become "al". Example: "Voy al cine" (I'm going to the cinema).
