chapter twenty-two quote which is symbolic of how human treatment of clones has lead to there lack of emotion. why is this particular quote ironic?
Miss Emily: “they handle it roughly, hurl it around their vehicle, then their employer claims it was like that from the start” ironic because its a deception of lifeless objects.
Miss Emily and Madames opinions on deferrals quote:
Why is this hypocritical?
“its something for them to dream about, a little fantasy. What harm is there?” hypocritical bc they are supposed to be on the clones side but this belittles their emotions.
Miss Emily as unsympathetic, uncaring, cold. without feelings:
Why is this ironic?
“It gives me no pleasure to disappoint you. But there it is.”
ironic bc this is how world views clones but it is the other way around in many scenarios. clones are the way that they are because THEY COPY HUMANS.

“its that awful man from the decorating company again”

“metallic animals” “laboured almost like they were copies”
Evidence of key theme HOPE: deferrals.
quote to show how clones latch onto hope.
“Chrissie and Rodney, they’re really obsessed with this idea”
key idea for deferrals
why would the authorities be kind enough? deferrals are for people in love not clones that just want sex… does this mean there is evidence of human love?
QUOTE: future career hope shattered
“none of you will go to America, none of you will be film stars”
describe the how the idea of having ‘possibles’ may act as a form of hope:
look at dream futures, but these are either far too limited or unrealistic (see kathy and ruth)
four problems that the theme of COMMUNICATION FAILURE causes
tommy’s tantrums, K and T never get together until end, Ruth doesn’t give truth, Guardians keep clones unaware
the simplicity of the novel marks its complexity. what is this also true for?
the clones.
what are the kazuo/clones trying to communicate?
question our own values or ethics, what we take for granted as the truth
does cruelty equate to caring? give quote
“told and not told” gives them a hope or chance, but it is like lying. also they could get disappointed.
what does kathys reaction to ruth with pencil case incident show?
she doesn’t like confrontation and she doesn’t want to lose her.
QUOTE: to show kathy’s dependency on ruth
“i was counting on ruth’s help”
“the kind of loyalty she inspired in me” ironic
QUOTE: ruth’s attitude to kathy’s dependancy on her
“you can’t expect me to hold your hand”
