What is a video codec?

A

The codec (or coder-decoder) is the software that compresses and decompresses the video and audio data housed in a container. This reduces file sizes, making footage much easier to work with. Simply put, without compression, one hour of HD footage could easily fill a hard drive.   2. go to the color inspector in the upper right side, triangle between the film strip icon and the sound icon
  3. you’ll see three boxes “color,” “saturation, “ and “exposure.” click on exposure###
  4. click on “view” above that, to the left of the filmstrip and select video scopes
  5. Look at the “luma” option. if it’s above 100, it’s overexposed (box on the left with streaks)
  6. start with the highlights option - below the round balls. drag it down so the luma is below 100
  7. go to the ‘shadows” option - and drag the streaks so they go below zero - this creates a contrasted option
  8. adjust the midtowns so the pic looks good
  9. turn off the video scopes

-Move both clips/photos to timeline, one on top of the other
-Put a custom generator between them
-V (disable) the top clip
-click on the custom generator and then go to the Inspector and crop the generator so the photo or clip is on the left side
-transform the clip or photo
-Hit V (reativate) the top clip
-Drag another custom generator atop the top clip
-click on the custom generator, and then go to inspector and crop it to reveal the second photo or clip
-transform the clip so it’s centered properly
-select the custom generator and the top photo/clip and make a compound clip
