What is the definition of Feudal system?
A way of organizing society in medieval times, where land was given in exchange for loyalty and service.
What is the definition of Manors?
Large farms or estates owned by a lord where peasants worked.
What is the definition of Tenants-in-chief?
Noble people who got land directly from the king.
What is the definition of Sub-tenants?
People who got land from the tenants-in-chief, and worked for them.
What is the definition of Serfs?
Peasants who worked the land and couldn’t leave without the lord’s permission.
What is the definition of Overlords?
Powerful lords who gave land to other nobles and controlled a lot of land.
What is the definition of Vassals?
Nobles who were given land by a lord in exchange for military service or loyalty.
What is the definition of Fief?
An estate of land
What is the definition of Villein?
Peasants/ serf who had to obey the lord
What is the definition of Land-in-tenure?
Someone who sold the land to someone below them
What is the definition of Garrison?
Troops of stationed in a town or place to defend it
What is the definition of Labour Service?
A service performed by workers for people above them
