Stages of the Hero’s Journey

A

ordinary world, call to adventure, refusal of the call, meeting w/mentor, crossing the threshold, tests allies and enemies, approach, ordeal, the reward, the road back, the resurrection, return w/elixir.

A

The hero is introduced sympathetically so audience can identify w/situation, background of environment, heredity, history is established.

Call to Adventure

A

shaking it up, either from external pressures or from something rising up. the inciting event.

Refusal of Call
hero feels fear of the unknown and tries to turn away. OR another character can express uncertainty. *Sometimes absent

hero comes across seasoned traveler who gives training, advice. OR hero reaches within to a source of courage

hero commits to leaving the ordinary world and enters a new region

At climax, hero is severely tested once more on threshold of home. Purified by last sacrifice, but on a more complete level. Finally resolved
