Mythological Characters Flashcards
Describe key figures from Greek and Roman myths. (6 cards)
Achilles
Greek hero. His mother loved him so much she dipped him into the River Styx, rendering invincible with the exception of his heel, where she’d held him as she dipped. Achilles was killed in battle when his one vulnerable area was struck
Arachne
Skilled weaver who was turned into a spider by Athena after boasting of her skills and mocking the gods.
Echo
A wood nymph, cursed by Hera to spend her life only able to repeat the words of others.
Pan
The god of flocks and shepherds. Unlucky in love with the wood nymphs. Eased his often-broken heart by scaring the bejesus out of passing travelers.
Narcissus
Handsome Greek man with whom Echo fell in love. He was already in love though. With himself. He ended up starving to death on the banks of a river, unable to pull himself away from his own glorious reflection.
Pandora
The very first woman. She was lovely to behold, but her curiosity led her to open a box she’d been forbidden to open. This unleashed all the misery into the world. She was able, however, to capture hope, before it escaped.
