Na+, K+ Flashcards
(24 cards)
Essential Hypertension
No identifiable secondary causes.
Orthostatic Hypertension
Sudden and abrupt increase in blood pressure when a person stands up.
Secondary Hypertension
Caused by another medical condition (Kidney, arteries, etc.)
Agonists
A substance initiating a physiological response when combined with a receptor and activates the receptors in the brain.
Hypotension
Low blood pressure
Adrenergic Receptors
Large class of proteins collectively known as G-protein coupled receptors (GPCR)
Agina
Chest pain caused by reduced blood flow to the heart
Antagonists
Drug specific binder and a blocker for other drug binding.
Antihypertensive
Class of drugs that Treat High Blood Pressure
Adrenergic blocking medication
Class of beta-adrenergic receptors and prevent binding of norepinephrine at these receptors. Prevent sympathetic stimulation of heart and reduce Heart rate, cardiac contractility, conduction velocity, and relaxation rate which decreases myocardial oxygen demand.
Alpha Agonist
Sympathomimetic agents that selectively stimulate alpha adrenergic receptors.
Alpha Blockers
Class of drugs that is Used to treat high blood pressure
-Zosin) (prozosin, doxazosin,terazosin
Beta 1 Blocker
-OLOL
Manage cardiac arrhythmias and protect the heart from a second heart attack
Beta 2 Blockers
-OLOL
Agonist/Antagonist
Protects heart from second heart attack
Cardiac Output
Volume of blood pumped by the heart.
Centrally Acting Adrenergic Medications
Stimulates CNS
Guanabenz Acetates agonists and -ine ex. Clonidine, guanfacine, and methyldopa.
Dysrhythmias
Disturbance of rhythm in the brain waves or heartbeat
Vasodilation
Dilation of blood vessels which decrease blood pressure
sympatholytics
Blocking transmission of impulses from the adrenergic(sympathetic) post ganglion is fibers to effector organs or tissues, inhibiting such sympathetic functions as smooth muscle contraction and glandular secretion.
Nerve activity.
Drugs- Alpha1 agonist, ace inhibitors, VMAT inhibitors, imidazoline receptors agonist. -ine
Selective
Highly specific in activity or effect selective
Thymoglobulin (prodrugs) etc.
NONSELECTIVE
Not selective to binding
Beta blockers, NSAIDS etc are non selective drugs
Intrinsic Sympathomimetic Activity (ISA)
Referring to beta blockers that are weak agonists of one or more b-adrenoceptor subtypes. Given to decrease side effects and improve tolerability.
First Dose Phenomenon
Refers to Alpha 1 antagonists following initiation of treatment can result in lightheaded nests, dizziness, and syncope.
-zosin, Ace inhibitors, other cardiovascular agents. HYPOTENSION, BRADYCARDIA, SYSTOLIC PRESSURE LESS THAN 50.
Dysrhythmia
Abnormal rhythm in electrical activity of heart and brain. (Jet lag)
Atrial fibs.
(Digoxin, diltiazem, propranolol, lidocaine, quinidine Na channels blockers, beta blockers, k+ channel blockers, Ca+ b;lockers, Vaal stimulation)
