Section 1: title:
Ethical responsibilities to children
Section 1 states: childhood is a unique and valuable stage in the human life cycle. Our paramount responsibility is to provide care and education in settings that are what? (4 )
safe, healthy, nurturing and responsive for each child
Section 1 states: We are committed to supporting children’s development and learning; respecting individual differences; and helping children learn to what? (3)
live, play, and work cooperatively
Section 1 also states that “we are also committed to promoting children’s what? (5)
self-awareness, competence, self-worth, resiliency, and physical well-being.
Ideals (12) under section 1: ethical responsibilities to children includes:
-Continuing education
-Individual child consideration
-self and healthy settings that allow for development and respect of the child’s dignity and contributions
-to provide an inclusive environment including disability equipment
-value diversity (culture, language, ethnicity, and family structure)
-to provide experiences in home language and progress in English
-provide smooth transition from program to program
What other two ideals are mentioned?
Appreciation for children’s dependence on adults
Assessments used to support children and provide additional services as needed (as assessments are designed for)
Principles of ethical responsibilities to children includes in P.1.1 the following oath: Precedence over all other principles within the Code.
Above all, we shall not harm children or participate in practices that are emotionally damaging, physically harmful, disrespectful, degrading, dangerous, exploitative, or intimidating to children.
Principles (11) in responsibilities to the children includes:
-positive, stimulating, and supportive environment
-non-discrimination
-HIPPA
-Assessments from multiple sources (not just a single assessment or observation)
-Child abuse awareness and call to action

Build individual relationships with the child, consulting with the family, and making a unique learning plan. Replacement will only be considered if the child is not having needs met, or is jeopardizing the abilities of others in the program. Council with family will occur to reconsider resources and other options.
