A vulnerable, inadequate self, resulting from unfulfilled childhood needs
What did Freud (1914/1957) describe narcissism as?
A person over-invested in the self and trying to keep away anything that would threaten his or her ego, even at the expense of others

A suite of correlated behavioural tendencies of individuals that are relatively stable across situations and time
What did Paulhus (1998) find out about narcissists?
- They are liked initially by interaction partners, making a good impression and being temporarily perceived as agreeable, competent, well adjusted, entertaining and exciting.
- However it soon wears off after several interactions, and they are later viewed as arrogant, bragging and hostile.
What did Hepper, Hart, and Sedikides (2014) find in their first study?
Results showed that high narcissists were consistently less empathic than low narcissists (regardless of condition)
What was the range of intensity participants could set on the other person in Bushman and Baumeister’s (1998) aggression study?
60 - 105 decibels
