What does Volksgemeinschaft mean?

A

This means “Peoples community”. This aimed to make the German nation a racially united body working for the good of the nation. Individuals were expected to obey the Nazi government and make sacrifices for the nation.

What does Fuhrerprinzip mean?

A

This means “ leadership principle”. The idea was that at each level of government from Hitler down, there was one person who was in clearly in charge- the leader. This person had power over everyone else on their level. They took responsibility for any problems at their level and reported to someone at the next level.

Why did Hitler leave the details of who would be responsible for what vague?

A

He did this to create a good deal of confusion. If deliberate, it would have been done to introduce competition among various ministries and departments. Keeping people on their toes and reminding them that they should not feel settled in their role.
